   PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES

Assoc. Prof. Mahinur S. Akkaya graduated from METU, Chemistry Department in 1984. She received her M.S. degree at the Ohio State University, Chemistry Department, Biochemistry subdivision in 1987 with an experience in protein/enzyme purification and characterization and enzyme kinetics. She received her Ph.D. degree in 1991 from Ohio State Biological Sciences Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology disciplines, worked on light regulation in higher plants. Dr. Mahinur S. Akkaya worked at United States Agricultural Department, Agricultural Research Center at Beltsville, Maryland as a postdoctoral fellow and geneticist for over two years, where she started the development of soybean linkage map and DNA fingerprinting using Microsatellite Molecular Markers, which was the first application of these markers in any plant species. She then, worked for a year as a senior scientist at the National Institute of Health, National Cancer Institute, Frederick, Maryland, retroviral and cellular factor interactions at protein-protein and protein-RNA levels. Since 1995 she is a faculty member at METU. Recently her research interests are functional genomics using cDNA and/or oligonucleotide (DNA) microarray technology and differential display and screening methods, QTL analysis of wheat yellow rust disease, and development of molecular markers linked to disease resistance genes in wheat. Her publications received more than 420 citations. Her research is supported by grants from Third World Academy of Sciences, International Atomic Energy Agency, TUBITAK, DPT and METU research funds.
